Bimatoprost solution grows your eyelashes gradually, over a period of time. The liquid solution is applied along the upper lash line once daily for a period of 4 to 16 weeks. Q: Are there any side effects?
A: Studies have shown that bimatoprost is safe for most people and that negative side effects occur in less than 4% of users. However, some minor reactions may occur, such as redness and itchiness near the application site. Eye dryness or irritation is also experienced in certain individuals and some people have reported hyperpigmentation or darkening around the treatment area (this symptom resolves after discontinued use). Because bimatoprost solution stimulates hair growth, unwanted hair may occasionally appear in other areas affected by bimatoprost. This can be minimized by applying the solution only as directed.

In rare cases, some patients with certain allergies may experience more severe reactions, such as lash fall-out. An examination from one of our physicians is necessary to minimize the potential risk of adverse reactions.

Q: Will bimatoloprost solution change my eye colour?
A: There is a risk that bimatoprost solution for eyelash enhancement may cause darkening of the iris. This is primarily a speculative concern that has arisen from studies reporting a change in iris colour among people using Lumigan, which has a much higher quantity of the same active ingredient in the eyelash enhancement solution. Lumigan is an eye drop that is used to treat glaucoma and is applied directly to the eye. In some people with fair skin and green or blue eyes, Lumigan caused an irreversible darkening of the iris. It is important to note that although Lumigan and the eyelash enhancing solution contain the same active ingredient, Lumigan is applied directly to the eye while the eyelash enhancing solution is used along the upper lash line. When applied properly, bimatoprost eyelash enhancing solution should not cause a change in eye colour.
